Abstract
In the development of complex products the integrated information in the different phases of the product development process is a challenge. Depending on the area of development, different information and different views concerning product structure facilitates the work of each. Yet, the lack ofcontextual relationships within the structures avoids linking the correct data between them. Therefore, similar information must often be entered multiple times and a cross comparison between those information from other domains or an automated comparison of the various activities in concurrent engineering processes become virtually impossible. This paper describes a research approach that ensures networking between different product structures and views that provides a contextual sight. With the use of semantic technologies and ontologies [1] the continuity of information can be achieved through a coherent semantic structure associated with view on different areas of the development process. The ontology serves as a neutral intermediate layer in which semantic web technologies can be used to build queries or filters that provide specific data of heterogeneous sources. They provide data from heterogeneous sources as a result.
