Abstract
This paper addresses the importance of how a model-based approach can optimise the management of Special Purpose Machinery (SPM) projects during the offer phase. It identifies a number of Systems Engineering languages and methods and creates a comprehensive comparative framework. This framework will help SPM users to apply sound criteria, compare them with their own needs and select an appropriate language and method to take the first steps towards implementing SE. Thereby it contributes to the success of complex SPM projects by ensuring comprehensive system modelling.
